Nick Johnson & Jonathan Deem Speaking at 2020 SME Conference
Nick Johnson and Jonathan Deem, partners at Bailey Glasser in Washington, DC, have been invited to bring their substantial mining and finance backgrounds and creative thought leadership to an innovative presentation on digital and cryptocurrency financing of mining projects at the MineXchange 2020 Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) Annual Conference & Expo in Phoenix, Arizona on February 24, 2020.
Nick and Jonathan have teamed up with Alan Cohn, counsel to the Blockchain Alliance and partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, to lead a technical session titled “What are you token about? Tokenizing a Mining Royalty or Stream to Raise Non-equity and Non-debt Financing.” Their presentation, motivated by the retreat of large institutional investors from funding mining projects, explores ways in which Blockchain-backed digital financing tools such as tokenization may be a solution. Nick and Jonathan will address how a token-based financing regime can (or cannot) fit into an existing or traditional capital structure of a mining business.
Featuring a wide variety of technical sessions and speakers combined with an expansive exhibit hall, the MineXchange attracts thousands of mining professionals from around the world.
Nick is the former Assistant General Counsel to mining companies Alpha Natural Resources and Foresight Energy, and now advises and litigates on behalf of multinational companies on complex commercial and environmental matters. Jonathan served as former General Counsel to the Governor of West Virginia and is a trusted and skilled adviser in the financial services, fintech, and corporate finance arena, having participated in multibillion-dollar financing transactions.
