Overview

Stephen C. Scott is a member of the firm’s Commercial and Environmental Litigation Practice Group, where he represents business clients in complex litigation matters, such as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference, fraud, fraudulent transfer actions, and claims brought under both federal and state statutes.

As a litigator, Stephen draws on his Appalachian-born grit to help clients achieve favorable outcomes across challenging legal terrain. He pairs a sharp eye for analyzing complex issues with a creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving them.

Before joining Bailey Glasser, Stephen practiced in the Pittsburgh office of a global law firm.  He represented Fortune 500 clients in mass tort litigation, spin-off and distribution agreements, and construction projects, among other matters. Stephen defended a major retailer in nationwide opioid litigation and in a special litigation committee investigation. Stephen also served as lead counsel for a national credit reporting agency in scores of individual consumer litigation brought under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Stephen has remained engaged in emergency technology issues facing clients.  He has counseled global manufacturers delivering emerging technology to market, such as e-bikes.  He has also counseled organizations on the risks of using artificial intelligence in generating content, including artwork.  Since entering practice, Stephen has contributed to thought leadership on the evolving landscape of autonomous vehicles.

Stephen earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law, where he served as Executive Notes Editor on the West Virginia Law Review. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Judge Stephanie D. Thacker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Proud of his Appalachian roots, Stephen is committed to serving his home state of West Virginia, his alma mater, and his broader community. He has volunteered as a youth leader for middle and high school students at his church.  Stephen also represented individuals in civil rights litigation against state actors and has worked on civil justice reform initiatives with police, community activists, and members, as well as corporate and nonprofit leaders.
