
Overview
Jack Budig is a lawyer based in Bailey Glasser’s Lexington, Kentucky office where he represents clients in complex tort, commercial disputes, and large product liability matters. This work includes representing energy companies navigating the legal complexities of the modern energy landscape in high-stakes disputes. He frequently represents mineral owners in actions against oil and gas production companies including in mineral title disputes, subsurface trespass, and royalty underpayment class actions.
Jack's work also includes handling appellate matters before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, the West Virginia Intermediate Court of Appeals, and the federal United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Sixth Circuits.
Jack is admitted to practice in Kentucky and West Virginia.
Prior to joining Bailey Glasser, Jack worked as a student clinician for West Virginia University College of Law's Land Use and Sustainable Development Clinic, where he worked on matters involving local governments and non-profit organizations.

Representative Matters
- Part of the litigation team that secured affirmance of a $10 million class action judgment before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit on behalf of a certified class of Ohio landowners, successfully arguing that an oil and gas company could not deduct processing costs from royalty payments before gas was rendered marketable under the parties' lease (Grissom v. Antero Resources)
- Member of appellate team that obtained a reversal in an appeal to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, wiping away a 2022 jury verdict and judgment against client Blackrock Enterprises, LLC regarding a dispute related to an oil and gas area of mutual interest agreement.
