Scott L. Messmore
Scott has extensive experience negotiating complex commercial transactions and preparing their related documents. He handles multi-party, multi-use, and multi-jurisdiction transactions. Whether the need is a purchase and sale agreement for a natural resource transaction, completing due diligence on a multi-million dollar acquisition, or preparing an involved deed, lease, or easement, Scott has the experience and judgment to bring about a successful result.
Scott deals with matters involving contracts, health and safety, asset and real property acquisitions and divestitures, corporate and partnership formations, labor and employment, coal sales, governmental compliance and affairs, and financing.
Scott spent in excess of fifteen years with Westmoreland Coal Company, then a Fortune 500 company, as senior in-house counsel and General Counsel and Secretary for its numerous subsidiaries, and he managed the Company's Coal Operations Legal Department for eleven years. He has presented papers at National Coal Lawyers Conferences and Energy and Mineral Law Foundation Institutes.
