Ricklin Brown


A partner in the firm, Rick concentrates his practice in labor and employment law. For more than 35 years, he has represented management and employers in various private industries including construction, manufacturing, automotive, mining, food service, health care, and banking, as well as public entities, in all facets of labor and employment relations law. He has litigated numerous cases before the National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, West Virginia Human Rights Commission, and Federal Mine Safety & Health Review Commission as well as the state and federal courts throughout West Virginia. He has tried more than a hundred civil matters to completion. Rick also has over 30 years experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements on behalf of clients who have union-organized work places. He was the first management representative in West Virginia to be elected as a Fellow to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Active in many community organizations, Rick is the past chairman and member of the board of directors of the West Virginia Educational Broadcasting Authority, the state license holder for all public broadcasting in this state. Appointed by the Governor to the Authority's board, Rick was committed to improving West Virginia public broadcasting service to the State and served on several boards to that end. He is a founding member of the board of directors of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. He is active in various community theater organizations and was a member of the board of trustees of the West Virginia Public Theatre. Rick is a member of the board of Read Aloud West Virginia and has also been a Read Aloud volunteer for several years.

Additionally, Rick is an Eagle Scout and served in the United States Army, Special Forces, attaining the rank of Captain (1968-1972), and is a Vietnam Veteran.

He is listed in the “Best Lawyers in America”, West Virginia Super Lawyers and is rated as an “AV” lawyer by his peers in Martindale-Hubbell. “America's Leading Business Lawyers,” published by Chambers USA, has ranked Rick in the first tier of Labor & Employment lawyers in West Virginia for the past several years. That publication describes him  as “highly esteemed for his ability, style and excellent results.” His peers admire his “wisdom and experience” and say “he inspires a lot of confidence” from his clients. He is “a great all purpose trial lawyer” and “is prominent in the sector for undertaking very significant labor issues for large clients and handling them well.” He is “one of the deans of the practice in the sphere of labor law.”
